Flying the Māori flag atop Everest goal for wāhine toa

From te Kūkupa: "Being the first wāhine, and the first Māori to take the tino rangatiratanga flag to the summit of Mt Everest (8,848 metres) is fuelling novice mountaineer Holly Beckham (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Rangi). She’s already climbed Mount Aspiring (3,033 metres) with mentor Lydia Bradey of Christchurch - the first woman to conquer Mt. Everest without supplementary oxygen. They will make a documentary together about the climb – but first there’s the challenge of raising enough funds for the venture – so a givealittle page has been set up. Both have overcome serious life traumas, and their climb will also support addictions and depression causes". You can see the facebook post here.

This week Holly will begin to undertake three 6,000m+ climbs in the Himalayas: Lobuche East 6,145m, Island Peak 6,189m and Mera Peak 6,476m. It's all part of her Everest Wāhine journey that you can read more about here. If you'd like to support Holly's mission please vist her Give-a-Little page here.
