As part of her Himalyas preparation Holly has been training under the guidance of Walter Thorburn, a Tri NZ Level 3 Accredited Coach, at the New Zealand Altitude Training Centre. Altitude training is a widely recognised method to enhance athletic performance, by improving the body’s ability to deliver and utilise oxygen in the muscles, which is often the limiting factor in climbing performance. Using a high-altitude training machine allows Holly to simulate altitudes up to 4,800m.
This month Holly will undertake three 6,000m+ climbs in the Himalayas: Lobuche East 6,145m, Island Peak 6,189m and Mera Peak 6,476m. It's all part of her Everest Wāhine journey that you can read more about here. If you'd like to support Holly's mission please vist her Give-a-Little page here.
